At times, unanticipated expenses or unforseen problems can leave
you with too little cash in your checking account. Having a check
returned due to insufficient funds can be an embarrassing and humiliating
experience.
We want to do our part to save you
from the possibility of ever having this occur. That's why we created
Bounce Protection®, a special overdraft
service for Harleysville National Bank/East Penn Bank customers.
What is Bounce Protection?
Bounce Protection is an overdraft service requiring no action on
your part. You do not have to sign anything. Your overdraft service
(Bounce Protection limit) amount will be automatically assigned after your first deposit is made.
How does Bounce Protection work?
As long as you maintain your account in good standing, we may honor overdrafts up to the Bounce Protection limit
on your account. If you use Bounce Protection, you should remember
the bank's normal overdraft (OD) fee for each transaction will be
deducted from your limit. The bank will notify you
by mail when an overdraft occurs. No interest will be charged on
the overdraft balance.
Additional fees may be imposed for covering overdrafts created by checks, in-person withdrawals, ATM or other electronic means. A Continuous Overdraft Fee will be assessed if your account is continuously overdrawn for four (4) consecutive calendar days resulting in a per-occurrence charge of $25.
How do I know when I use the overdraft limit?
You will receive an overdraft notice in the mail each time items
are paid. The notice will show the check number, amount, and the
OD fee. You should subtract total fees from your checkbook. Remember,
the fee for paying an item is the same as for returning one.
I have two checking accounts. Can I get Bounce Protection
on both?
Yes. If you have multiple accounts for your household, you may
have a limit on all eligible accounts.
What if I go beyond my Bounce Protection limit?
Overdrafts above and beyond your established Bounce Protection
limit may result in check(s) or other activity being returned to the payee.
The normal OD fee will be charged per check or other activity and assessed to your
account. An OD notice will be sent to notify you of our actions.
Will I have access to my limit through my ATM or
VISA® Check Card?
Generally you may access your Bounce Protection by using your ATM
or VISA Check Card. Other transactions include:
- Checks and other debits cashed at teller windows
- ACH debit transactions
- Checks issued to a third party
- All transactions that currently are honored thorugh your account
How quickly must I repay my Bounce Protection?
You should make every attempt to bring your account to a positive
balance within 30 days. If you are not able to do so, you will receive
a letter from us informing you of the situation
and your options. If, after a period of time, your account has not
been brought into a positive balance, we will have no option but
to close your account and take other steps to recover funds.
What does my Bounce Protection service cost?
As stated previously, you should keep in mind that you may be charged
an OD fee for each check paid under the limit.
How soon can I use my Bounce Protection?
You may be able to use
the overdraft service as soon as a deposit is made to your account.

or Bill Payment, is my Bounce Protection limit included in the balance?
Your Bounce Protection limit will be reflected in the balance recited
to you before you initiate a transfer using Telephone Banking, and
is displayed when using Web Banking.
Your Bounce Protection limit will not be reflected in the balance
recited to you when making a balance inquiry using Telephone Banking,
nor is it displayed on your ATM receipt.
If I have registered for the Overdraft Protection
Transfer Plan, will I still have a Bounce Protection Limit?
Yes. If you are registered for the Overdraft Protection Transfer
Plan, we will attempt to pay any overdraft using funds from your
linked account first (plus any applicable fee). If your account
is still overdrawn, Bounce Protection will be activated.
What if I do not want this service? What do I need to do?
The service can be declined at account opening or anytime thereafter by notifying your local branch. You can also phone and notify our Call Center at 1-888-HNB-2100.
Are transactions processed in the order they occurred?
Transactions may not be processed in the order in which they occurred; the order in which we receive and process transactions can affect the total amount of the fees incurred. At HNB/EPB, for your benefit, your deposits are posted before your withdrawals.
